6/2018/1879/NMA Currently we have been approved for a balcony at the back which should have obscure glass to the sides and rear. We would like to amend the rear glass to be clear instead of obscure. We will keep the side glass obscure at the height of 1.8m, but we would like to amend the rear garden facing glass to clear at a handrail height of 1.1m. We are requesting this; due to the privacy and the fact we are fully secluded to the rear to allow for clear rear glass. It was originally submitted at first application for it to be clear to the rear, as we were advised by our architect that the rear glass can be clear however it is known for the sides to be obscure for neighbours' privacy. On our preapplication meeting we were advised that the glass should be obscure to allow the planning to be approved. Our architect then amended this at the request of the planning officer. 15/12/2022 12/01/2023 Circumstances have now worsened, as when we put in our original application, we had advised at the time my husband had degenerative disc disease to his back and this would never get better. In the space of 4 years, it has really deteriorated. This is after a major back operation in October 2021, following an injection in July 2022 due to the operation not working and following on from that he had a further 6 branch block injections in October 2022, to which nothing has eased. This has put him in a position of not being able to go back to work. The reason we would require the clear glass now is, it would help with the natural light aspect but more over it will allow my husband to be able to look down to the garden from a sitting position as he cannot stand for long periods. The consultant has advised that there is not much more they can offer for his back now, because his back is not allowing him to do much his legs are getting weaker by the day, and a wheelchair will be required very soon. Lastly for our security reasons, as we are secluded out the back, we would benefit from being able to look down through the clear glass rather than go outside and have to look over the obscure glass. We would appreciate if you could carefully and kindly consider all the above points for why we require the clear glass. This would be changing my husband's life and vision.
